Grace Kelly and Prince Rainer

Whether you are young or old, just about everyone has seen footage of actress Grace Kelly floating down the aisle in an ivory gown of silk and taffeta with a train so long it could only belong to the next princess of Monaco.

In May of 1955 while attending the Cannes Film Festival, Grace Kelly met Prince Rainer of Monaco. The two quickly begun what would become one of the worlds’ greatest love stories. Within six months of courtship the Prince bestowed a breathtaking twelve carat emerald- cut diamond on her hand. In 1956 at the cathedral of Monaco Grace Kelley married her prince and took her rightful place beside her husband, giving up Hollywood to commit to her royal duties.

During their twenty-five year marriage they had three children: Caroline, Albert and Stephanie. In Sept of 1982 Princess Grace of Monaco was killed in a car accident when her car went over a cliff. Prince Rainer never remarried and in April of 2005, at the age of eighty-one, the prince passed away from health complications and many say of a broken heart that never mended. He was buried next to his beloved princess at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Edward and Mrs. Simpson

Prince Edward of Britain met the love of his life in January, 1931 while attending a party given by the princes “lady friend” Lady Thelma Furness. Wallis Simpson was on her second marriage and the prince had long been known as Britain’s most notorious bachelor. Not long there after, the two met up again and the prince called off his long term relationship with Lady Furness in favor of courting Mrs. Simpson.

The Prince upon the death of his father George the V took the throne in January 1936 to assume his royal responsibilities. News of his relationship with the still married Mrs. Simpson began to circulate throughout the press and the commonwealth. That same year Wallis Simpson obtained a divorce from her husband. Marrying a divorced American was not acceptable to the royal family or the commonwealth. Pressure and the press forced the prince to announce in December of that year his intent to abdicate the throne in favor of marrying his beloved. In 1937 the two married and were exiled from Britain and thus abandoned by members of the royal family. The couple would move to France where they would live out their love story for more than thirty-five years.

In May of 1972 Edward passed away at the age of 77. Fourteen years later the ex Mrs. Simpson would join him.

The Story of the Taj Mahal

One of the seven wonders of the world the Taj Mahal is often referred to as “the shrine of love.” Located in India, this spectacular palace was built by emperor of the Mughal dynasty Shah Jehan in honor of his wife Arjumand Banu aka Murmtaj Mahal. In 1607 the emperor met Arjumand Banus while strolling the street of a bazaar. The prince was only twenty and his bride only nineteen. They were married five years later. This union was not a popular one, for it was not usual for an emperor to marry for love rather to have a wife chosen for him. Over the course of almost nineteen years this romance stood the trial and tribulations of royal scrutiny and the fight for the throne. In their nineteen years together the couple would bear fourteen children.Unfortunately, Arumand died while giving birth in 1930. Broken hearted at the news of her death, emperor Shah Jehan ordered the most beautiful mausoleum imaginably be built in her honor. This beautiful tribute to his beloved took over twenty thousand craftsman, masons, sculptors and designers from Persia to complete.

The property consists of the main gateway, garden, rest house, mosque and the mausoleum. The artwork and craftsmanship are exquisite and include inlaid gemstones, calligraphy, marble floors and breathe taking gardens. It took 22 years to build this tribute of love that is the 7th Wonder of the World.

I’ve been machine sewing for a half century. I started with a Singer treadle machine and have worked my way though various other Singers over the years (because I outgrew them and not that they gave up on me). Your daughter will need trousers hemmed and denims done so get something that can handle the heavier duty work so you won’t be disappointed down the road.
